Vesalius started the increase of careful observation in physiology, people like Carolus Linnaeus, Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon started conceptual studies to understand the diversity of life, to record fossils and to study organism behavior. The importance of nature theology with the strengthening of mechanical philosophy may have had an impact on the development of natural history.
